Kolbe House Jail Ministry
 Kolbe House is the Catholic jail ministry of the Archdiocese of Chicago. It began 40 years ago and was named after St. Maximilian Kolbe. “House” was added to emphasize the goal that people who sought aid there not feel that they were not coming to an office to be treated as nameless clients, but that they were coming to a home to be treated as family.
Compelled by the Gospel mandate, “I was in prison, and you visited me,” Kolbe House is a sanctuary for those impacted by incarceration. They seek to promote restoration and reconciliation through outreach, support and accompaniment.
The ministry is based on four pillars: Presence, Reconciliation, Sanctuary and Advocacy, all viewed through a lens of Restorative Justice for those who have been incarcerated and the community in which they are a part.
Kolbe House ministries include:
St. John of the Cross supports Kolbe House monetarily as one of our Sharing Ministries, as well as with collections of toiletries, gift cards, undergarments, socks, fresh produce from our Fr. Dave Garden, and any other requests where we can provide assistance. We have a long history with this ministry.
Donations of mini soaps, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and razors can be dropped off at the Parish Center to the attention of Laura.
